Pier to Pier in 360 miles in aid of Starr Trust

It may be heartbreak for England with an exit from the World Cup (Indeed, it has been over a week but it lives long in the memory). However, it is joy, and in part relief, for John (Drum CEO), to have completed the pier to pier ride from Bangor to Brighton. A staggering 360 miles was complete over four days, countless hills and several counties.

The riders, 22 of them, set off in the early hours of 11th July and were almost instantly faced with the mammoth task of a 350m climb. The route didn’t get much easier, with climb after climb throughout the four days.

The days went on, the tiredness compounded, John kept spirits high leading several renditions of ‘It’s coming home’ as they whizzed down hills buffeted by the wind. John, still took his time to reflect on his sweepstake team and the possibility of football finally coming home.

However, the main focus, was always to ensure the ride was complete. 360 miles later…

The team rode into Brighton and were presented with pizza and prosecco. A well earned treat for all riders involved. John hid his exhaustion and smiled knowing the accomplishment of the ride was achieved. Even the news of football not coming home did not deter the joy of the ride.
